They didn't have to trek by foot over the Alps, arriving instead by a silver motor home, but the MacDonald Family Singers certainly filled Living Lord Lutheran Church with the "sound of music" on Sunday evening, January 28th. This family of eight children ranging in age from 7 years to 22, together with Mom, Laurie and Dad, Victor, delighted the crowd that packed the church sanctuary with a variety of gospel, bluegrass, and classical hymns. Keeping track of these talented children was even more challenging as each child played a variety of instruments ranging from harmonicas, mandolins, violins, keyboards, guitars, bass, brass and banjo. The MacDonalds opened their concert with a medley of ten upbeat praise songs that featured Mom, Laurie, on the keyboards while the children demonstrated the family harmony. The family kicked off their bluegrass hymns with "Brethren We Have Met" which featured the five older children on instruments. Nine-year old Daniel displayed his budding harmonica skills on "Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus." Father Victor, playing trombone, joined the group to form a brass quartet for a rendering of "It Is Well With My Soul." Carol, 22, brought down the house and garnered a standing ovation for her solo of "The Holy City." Returning to the "sound of music" was Bonnie MacDonald, 19, as she yodeled - not to tell of a "lonely goatherd" but to "Make a Joyful Noise for Jesus" - and she certainly did, as did the entire MacDonald Family! This was a wonderful musical evening, and for those fortunate enough to attend, the joyful noise will continue through the MacDonald's gifts of their first CD "Honey in The Rock."
